El Salvador's name still brings up images of the brutal civil war that raged during the 1980's. Thankfully, the war is over, and today the most turbulent aspect of El Salvador is its volcanic landscape. Though it is the smallest country in Central America, El Salvador is amazingly diverse – adorned with forested mountains, smoking volcanoes, rich farmlands and a beautiful south-facing Pacific coastline. Regardless, countless travelers will tell you that what stands out about El Salvador is not its diverse landscape, but rather, the genuine friendliness and openness of its people.
With 30% of the population below the poverty line there is a great need to partner with Salvadorians who are addressing health, educational and economic needs. Many of the programs we partner with in El Salvador are after school programs sponsored by local communities and Compassion International. Programs of this type are an attempt to reach the most economically marginal.
Travel to El Salvador and your group will leave with new-found friends and a new perspective on the needs around the world!
