As well the population with an estimated 40% of the population Indigenous offers the opportunity to see communities still dressing in traditional attire and observing age-old customs. The truth is Guatemala is a visual smorgasbord.
Opportunities in Guatemala include libraries, digging latrines and installing stoves, preschool programs, afterschool programs, and general construction. Plus for those interested in coffee the entire experience can be in the coffee growing regions! |

Guatemala, with a population over 14,000,000, is the largest of the Central American countries and most famous for the tremendous Mayan ruins. It is a diverse country both in its geography as well as its people. From coastlines on the Pacific and the Caribbean to the many volcanoes (many of which are active) and to the highlands rich with some of the best coffee in the world Guatemala offers adventure seekers unlimited opportunities.
Yet Guatemala struggles with great human needs. Much of the population has only sporadic work and attempts to live on not much more than $1 per day. The country has some of the highest rates of early childhood stunting in the hemisphere as a result of significant malnourishment. Literacy rates lag behind most of the other countries of the hemisphere and it is especially the case with women. While the statistics can be overwhelming there are many committed community leaders not content with the status quo. We hope to partner your team with community and church leaders who are trying to make a lasting impact.
